With the leadership and encouragement of Kreg Hill, District Director of the Pacific Southwest District of the American Rose Society, the formation of a Photography Committee was formally approved at the District meeting in Palm Springs in November of 2009. The committee had been working informally since July of 2008, with a goal of developing a schedule and guidelines for Photography as a separate division in our rose shows. The underlying philosophy is that Rose Photography is an artistic pursuit, deserving of more than a place in a Class or Section within the Horticulture Division in our rose shows.
Our mission is to promote photography of the rose as an artistic pursuit; to share with the public the rose in its most perfect phase of possible beauty; and to encourage wider participation by offering a different way for exhibitors to show their roses.
This is work that will be ongoing for years. Each time a show committee uses the schedule, a work-in-progress, we see more things that need to be changed, clarified, and added.
